Privacy Policy

Effective September 18, 2026 · Applies to the Memorization by Furlo app

Memorization is provided by James Furlo (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy explains how information is handled when you use the Memorization app for iPhone and iPad. Contact us at apps@furlo.com with privacy questions.

Your passages and practice information

Memorization stores the passages you type or paste, their titles and formatting, section markers, hidden-word selections, and saved Recite results on your device. Saved results include information such as practice dates, duration, sections practiced, word outcomes, hints, retries, and counts of recognition errors. The app also stores preferences and technical information needed to keep your library in sync.

This information supports editing, practice, progress review, and synchronization. You do not need a separate Memorization account. We do not operate a server that receives your passage library or recitation audio.

iCloud synchronization

iCloud sync is enabled by default. When your device has an available iCloud account and syncing is enabled, the app sends passages, formatting, hidden-word selections, and saved Recite results to Apple's CloudKit service in your private iCloud database. This lets devices using the same iCloud account exchange changes. The app also maintains an account identifier and synchronization history on your device to coordinate those changes.

You can turn syncing off in the app's iCloud Sync settings. Turning it off stops future synchronization from that device; it does not remove previously uploaded iCloud data or downloaded local data. Changes made while syncing is off may be merged when you turn it on again.

Apple operates iCloud under its own Privacy Policy and iCloud terms. Device backups may also contain app data, depending on your Apple settings, independently of the app's sync setting.

Microphone and speech recognition

Recite needs microphone permission to follow your spoken words. Speech recognition takes place on your device using Apple's on-device speech technology. The app does not save audio recordings or send your recitation audio to us or to a remote transcription service.

The app temporarily processes recognized text to compare your recitation with the selected passage. It saves practice results, rather than a full transcript of your speech. Saved results can sync through iCloud as described above. Your device may need an internet connection to download Apple's speech models before this feature can work.

You can revoke microphone access in your device's Settings. You can still use features that do not require the microphone.

Advertising, tracking, and support

The app does not include advertising or third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. We do not sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising.

If you contact us, we receive the email address and information you choose to send. We use that information to respond, troubleshoot, and maintain support records. Please send only information needed for your request. Support email is handled through Google Workspace Gmail at apps@furlo.com. We retain support emails indefinitely as part of our email correspondence unless you request deletion, subject to any applicable legal retention requirements.

The app does not include custom analytics or crash-reporting tools. Apple may separately collect and make app usage statistics and crash reports available to us through its developer tools, subject to Apple's policies and your sharing settings. We may use those reports to understand app performance and fix problems. TestFlight beta testing has separate reporting practices, including automatic sharing of crash reports with developers. See Apple's App Analytics & Privacy information.

Retention and deletion

Your saved passages and practice results remain in the app until you delete them. Deleting a passage also deletes its associated saved Recite results from the local library. When syncing is enabled and completes successfully, the deletion is exchanged with iCloud and your other synced devices. Changes are exchanged while the Library is open, and propagation may take time. Simultaneous edits can create separate conflict copies that you may also need to delete.

Technical deletion markers and synchronization records may remain so the app can coordinate changes. Turning off sync or deleting the app does not by itself delete the existing iCloud copy. Manage any remaining iCloud data and backups through Apple's available account and storage controls. Backup retention is governed by the service that maintains those backups.

We cannot directly browse or erase your private passage library in response to a support email. Contact apps@furlo.com for help with deletion or to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information you have sent directly to us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights, including the right to complain to a privacy regulator.

Security

The app uses your device's storage and Apple's private iCloud database for its library. Protect your device and Apple Account, particularly if your passages contain sensitive information. No storage or transmission method can guarantee complete security.

Children

Memorization is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so we can address it.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the app or our practices change. We will revise the effective date and provide any additional notice or obtain consent required by applicable law.
